Outstanding Project Awards
Call For Entries
CalGeo will again be recognizing firms for their outstanding geotechnical projects at our next Annual Conference in April, 2017. Entries will be judged on innovation, difficulty of the investigation (difficulty of construction for design-build projects), quality of reports, success of interaction between the design team, and social impact of the project.

Please consider spotlighting your company's technical achievements by submitting a project by January 20, 2017. Click here to download the rules and application package.

Award winners will be highlighted April 28 at the Outstanding Project Awards luncheon during the Annual Conference in Hawaii.

As the year comes to end, you may be thinking of making contributions to a favorite organization. Why not consider making a donation to CalGeo to our Student Outreach Fund and/or our General Fund? We appreciate and thank those that have made these donations during the year and perhaps you'd want to make another. With your support we hope that additional funds will be raised to help California engineering students achieve their goals, or to help CalGeo offer the best programs and benefits we can to our members.
We are a non-profit association and your contribution is tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law. Just contact the office at (530) 344-0644 or email mmyers@calgeo.org and we'll help you with your credit card donation, or you can just mail in a check to: CalGeo, 309 Placerville Dr., Placerville, CA 95667. Rest In Peace-Dennis Evans
Dennis Evans, Past President of CalGeo (1975) passed away of natural causes in his adopted home of Kauai, Hawaii. Dennis was a graduate of the Colorado School of Mines and, along with his contemporaries, was instrumental in the development of the geotechnical industry in southern California starting with his assignment as Chief Engineering Geologist for the County of Los Angeles in 1962. During the ensuing years, Dennis either worked for or was a founding partner of several geotechnical firms, culminating in the formation of Evans, Colbaugh & Associates, Inc. in 1993. Dennis was also one of the earliest professionals to become registered as both a Civil Engineer and Engineering Geologist.
Dennis was actively involved in the Los Angeles Section of ASCE, AEG, and was a founding partner of the SAFEA (CalGeo) Charter Firm of Evans, Goffman & McCormick. Dennis was also very active with the Board of Registration for Civil Engineer in developing the registration of Geologists and a participant on the GTAC Committee which accomplished the Title Authority for Soils Engineers.
Dennis "retired" to Kauai with his wife Karen in 2001 only to resurrect D A Evans, Inc and continued to practice engineering geology, and geotechnical engineering, Hawaiian Style, until his passing. Dennis will be missed by his friends and family.
